METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and stringy glob. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper under the gum residue. After that we slide the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should peel right off of the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is already smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal, we don’t use high pressure because that could damage the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses any more pressure than necessary to safely clean concrete. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our gum removal service.
